How to Write a Resume Projects Section
Projects are especially valuable for students, career changers, designers, developers, analysts, and anyone whose strongest evidence is not fully captured by a formal job title. A good project entry shows what you made or solved and what part of the work was yours.
Choose projects that prove something relevant
Do not list every project you have ever completed. Select work that demonstrates the skills, tools, or thinking the target role needs.
A smaller project can be stronger than a large one if your contribution is clear and directly relevant.
Name the project and your role clearly
Use a recognizable project title and, when needed, add context such as Class Project, Independent Project, Volunteer Project, or Team Project. That keeps the work credible without pretending it was paid client work.
If it was a team effort, describe the part you personally owned.
Explain the problem before listing the tools
A list of software does not explain why the project mattered. Add one sentence about the goal, audience, problem, or constraint.
Then describe the tools and decisions in context: built a responsive prototype in Figma, analyzed survey results in Excel, implemented a JavaScript interaction, or tested the layout for color contrast.
Show revisions and outcomes when available
Projects often contain useful evidence of iteration. Mention user feedback, testing, performance improvements, accessibility changes, error reduction, or another real outcome when it happened.
If the project did not have a measurable result, describe the finished deliverable and the problem it solved instead of inventing a metric.
Link only to work that is ready to be seen
A portfolio, GitHub repository, live demo, or case study can strengthen the entry. Check the link before every application.
Do not send the employer into an unfinished page, private repository, or site that requires credentials they do not have.

Portfolio redesign — Figma, HTML, CSS.
Portfolio Redesign — Reorganized a multi-page design portfolio around clearer case-study hierarchy, rebuilt responsive layouts in HTML/CSS, and improved contrast and mobile navigation after accessibility review.
Team capstone project — Led the interface design and prototyping; another team member handled the database and deployment.
